Jumi Lee Amnott

Jumi Lee Amnott is a cellist, teaching artist, and educator active in Korea and the United States. She made her orchestral debut as a soloist at the age of fifteen and has since performed as a soloist, chamber musician, and orchestral musician with ensembles in both countries.

Her early performing career in Korea included concerto appearances with the Daegu Symphony Orchestra, Daegu Strings Orchestra, DIO Orchestra, and the Daegu Gifted Education Center Orchestra. She later continued her studies and professional career in the United States, earning a Bachelor of Music degree in Cello Performance from Oberlin Conservatory of Music in 2020 and a Master of Music degree in Cello Performance from The Juilliard School in 2023, where she studied with Darrett Adkins. She is currently pursuing a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Cello Performance at New York University.

As an orchestral musician, Jumi is currently a guest cellist with the Princeton Symphony Orchestra, Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra, and Albany Symphony. Her previous orchestral experience includes serving as Principal Cello with Heartbeat Opera and the Daegu International Symphony Orchestra, Assistant Principal Cello with the Brooklyn Orchestra and Juilliard Chamber Orchestra, and Section Cello with Camerata New Jersey.

Jumi has maintained a longstanding connection with the Aspen Music Festival and School, where she was a fellow from 2016 through 2022. She returned to Aspen in 2025 and 2026 as Chamber Music Coordinator, working closely with faculty and students and supporting the festival's chamber music programming.

Jumi is also a Co-Director of Vision Possible Project, a nonprofit initiative that supports young artists and creates opportunities for community engagement through music. She has organized and directed performances and young artist programs in New York City and beyond.

Equally dedicated to teaching, Jumi has more than ten years of experience working with students from age five through the collegiate level. She maintains a private cello studio and has helped students prepare for auditions, competitions, recitals, youth orchestras, and conservatory study. Her students have gone on to attend programs and institutions including Oberlin Conservatory of Music, the Aspen Music Festival and School, and Harmony Program.

Jumi joined The Juilliard School's Pre-College Music Advancement Program (MAP) as a Teaching Artist Faculty member in 2026. She has also served as a Faculty Assistant to Darrett Adkins, Joel Krosnick, and Nina Lee at Juilliard, working closely with their cello studios. Her additional teaching appointments include Adjunct Instructor at New York University, Private Cello Instructor at Blair Academy, Cello Faculty at Creative Music Lessons, and Secondary Cello Teacher at Oberlin Conservatory of Music.

As both a performer and educator, Jumi is passionate about developing musicians who are technically grounded, musically independent, and deeply connected to their artistic voices. Her teaching emphasizes individualized instruction, thoughtful practice, curiosity, and the development of lifelong musicianship.

Jumi is currently based in New York City, where she continues to balance her work as a performer and educator with life outside of music. She lives with her husband and their White German Shepherd, Mandu.
