Whether a student is learning the cello for the first time, preparing for an audition, developing repertoire for a recital, or considering music as a career, Jumi works to help each student become a confident, independent musician.

Students of All Levels

Young Beginners & Intermediate Students

For younger students, lessons focus on building healthy playing habits and a strong technical foundation while keeping music-making engaging and enjoyable. As students progress, they develop greater independence through repertoire, scales, musicianship, and problem-solving skills.

Advanced & Pre-College Students

Advanced students work toward refining their technique, developing their own artistic voice, and preparing for auditions, competitions, recitals, NYSSMA, and conservatory-level study.

Students from Jumi’s studio have earned NYSSMA scores of 99/100 (Level 5) and 29/30 (Level 2) and have participated in All-State Orchestra. They have also gone on to participate in and study at programs and institutions including Aspen Music Festival and School, Oberlin Conservatory, Temple University, Cincinnati Conservatory of Music, Meadowmount School of Music, and the Harmony Program.

College & Adult Students

Jumi also works with college students and adult amateurs pursuing music for a wide range of reasons—from continuing serious musical study to returning to the cello after years away or simply learning an instrument they love.

Students work toward their individual goals, whether that means improving technique, learning new repertoire, preparing for a performance, or simply becoming a more confident musician. Jumi's studio also holds an annual studio recital, giving students an opportunity to share their work in a supportive performance environment.
